A glossy, black-and-white photograph of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra
serves as the focal point of the gallery wall, behind our sofa.
Photographer Jack Albin captured the two, iconic Italian-American crooners in 1961. The twosome are dressed to the nines in classic tuxedos, seated at a table littered with cocktails and surrounded by clouds of smoke.
The candid shot shows the pair enveloped in conversation and exudes an air of glamour and attitude synonymous with the glitzy, Old Hollywood scene and Italian culture.
But, this photograph is so much more than the booze and bow-ties, really.
The Frank and Dean photograph tells a story.
It nods to our story, our family heritage.
It speaks to all the times we’ve twirled around our kitchen, it reminds us of our wedding day and
it infuses our home with a feeling of familiarity and history.
Black-and-white prints are fool-proof tools to share parts of yourself within your home.
I’ll be the first to admit: some of the black-and-white photographs I share below are a bit of a splurge.
That said, there are endless advantages to investing in artwork for your home and I find that black-and-white photographs, especially, are splurge-worthy because of their endless versatility and timeless appeal.
The perfect piece allows you to showcase your personality and interests within a space — without detracting from the design and/or staring at your own face plastered all over the walls.
Styling Tip -
Use an oversized, framed print to make a statement and dress-up your hallway, bathroom or kitchen.

Pair high-end pieces with budget-friendly art, thrifted tchotchkes and/or black-and-white family photographs. Mixing-in pricier piece(s) will cast a luxe light on the surrounding, inexpensive items and elevate your entire display.
