There few feelings that compare to the bliss that comes as a result of finally doing
that thing in your life that you’ve put off doing for way too long.
We all have one of those things, right?
You know the one — that task that you think about on a weekly (okay, sometimes daily) basis but continue to brush off because it isn’t technically a pressing matter right now
and there are far more important things for you to invest your time/money/energy into at any given moment.
Such as, you know,
keeping up with your ever-pressing Bravo television schedule,
buying 3-5 seasonal candles from Homegoods every other week and/or
scrolling aimlessly through Sephora’s website until you convince yourself to splurge on
yet another pricey beauty product you definitely did not need.
Those are just some general, blanket examples I assume apply to everyone…
But, I digress.
For me, our kitchen cabinet hardware — or lack thereof — was the object of my procrastination for the last 11+ months. I kept putting off the purchase because I knew that we eventually want to renovate the space. The cabinets’ scale feel a little “off” to me, some of them too large and some decisively shrunken. And, the worst part?
All of the upper cabinets are crowned with oversized soffits that visually drag down the entire ceiling and serve as major eyesores in the space.
The long-term goal is to remove the soffits and install new cabinetry that reaches the ceiling to enhance the height of the space and provide ample storage for our pots, pans, and other, miscellaneous kitchen things.
With that in mind, I convinced myself that avoiding the hardware was basically a responsible thing to do. I mean, it feels a bit superfluous to invest in high-end hardware without knowing exactly what our cabinetry will look like after renovations in the next few years, right?
Also, I couldn’t bring myself to spend any amount of money on outfitting our kitchen with less-expensive hardware knowing that I will, undoubtedly want or need to replace all of them once we do renovate. I’d much rather save-up and purchase the pricier set one time instead of buying cheaper pieces as placeholders for 3 years and then splurging on the hardware we wanted in the first place.
Here’s the catch:
Procrastination will eventually wear your down and leave you drained.
It’s exhausting. Especially when it’s related to your home or work environment and for me, our kitchen was both.
I was sick of looking at the smudgy, stained cabinet doors everyday and longing for the day that we (read: Joey) can take a sledgehammer to the soffits.
Sometimes you have to stop focusing on how green your grass should be, would be or could be in the future and take the steps necessary to nurture the ground you’re standing on today.
I decided to put one of the Real Housewives’ commercial breaks to good use and splurge on the Rejuvenation hardware I’ve been eyeing for years and, damn, does it feel good.
The unlacquered handles, pulls and knobs totally transformed the kitchen, packed personality into the design and, miraculously, makes the unsightly soffits a little more tolerable in the space. Key word: little.
My advice?
Do the thing you’ve been putting off for
the last week, month or year and do it as soon as possible.
You’ll be glad you did.
the B E F O R E
BLEAK, BARE + BORING
Another notable mention: the hinges were filthy.
So filthy, in fact, that we genuinely didn’t realize they were brass until last week.
We thought they were oil-rubbed bronze or a matte black finish ever since we moved in.
Feeling so #blessed by Brasso right now.
the A F T E R
CLASSIC, GLAMOROUS + WARM
The hardware elevated the space in a way I didn’t think was possible.
We selected three pieces from Rejuvenation to outfit our cabinets -
THE DRAWERS | Vernon Bin Pulls (4”) in unlacquered brass
STANDARD DOORS | Vernon Offset Pull (4”) in unlacquered brass
PETITE DOORS | Vernon Mushroom Knob in unlacquered brass
Soooo, I’m dying to know: what do you think?!
