POSITANO TRAVEL GUIDE

POSITANO

After over a year of unexpected home renovations, dog calamities, and quarantining – we were over the moon that we were finally about to pack our (25 lbs overweight!) bags and head back to the motherland for another unforgettable Italian adventure.

The first leg of our trip was spent in the magical seaside town of Positano. Some call it the city of stairs, others call it the vertical city but we simply call it a dream. It’s an indescribable, gut-wrenchingly beautiful town that leaves me, the long-winded writer, at a loss for words. It’s the kind of place that imprints your soul and leaves you with raging vacation blues on the way home. John Steinbeck wrote it best, “Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.”

Our trip revolved around sea glass, volcanic sand and the sea. We spent our days baking in the sun at a local beach club or diving from a classic wooden boat en route to Capri. The official agenda was to soak up the last unofficial week of summer with good times, great wine, and gorge ourselves with as many zucchini flowers as we could find. And that we did, friends. That we did.

DAY 1 //
We spent our first morning with breakfast room service (think: cappuccinos, eggs, bacon, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, cream-filled pastries, and chocolate hazelnut croissants) and sped off to the most popular beach club below, L’Incanto. This club is located on the main beach and is within walking distance of shops and restaurants, but we love it because it boasts breathtaking views at a fraction of the price of other local beach clubs. I made reservations for two front-row umbrellas and sunbeds and that’s where we spent our entire day. L’Incanto delivered (countless) limoncello and Aperol spritz to our sunbeds, as well as a mouthwatering Margherita pizza for lunch. Dinner this night was at our favorite restaurant in the entire world: Da Gabrisa. If you ever find yourself in Positano and don’t trek your way to Da Gabrisa, you’re doing yourself a grave disservice. Order zucchini flowers to start and don’t sleep on their risotto dishes or their decadent veal and onion pasta.

DAY 2 //

After another divine breakfast composed of more carbs and sugar than anyone should consume before 8 am, we hopped on a boat to head to our private beach club of the day.

I knew that Treville Beach Club was a must-see spot for this trip because it combines my favorite things: blue, white and mermaids.

Plus, an on-site restaurant for lunch. What more could you ask for?

We left this club feeling no pain, so we kept our dinner simple this evening with a pizza from a local spot a few steps from our hotel.

DAY 3//

This was our favorite day, by far: private boat day! Our hotel booked us a private boat day that took us from Positano to Capri with a lunch stop and swimming excursions in between.

The family-owned boat tour company is called Alleria Tours and Captain Gianluigi and his son, Luca was a highlight of our trip. Our day involved cruising along the Tyrrhenian Sea, several swimming-stops in secluded areas and a luxurious, waterfront lunch on Capri.

The best part, by far, was when Gianluigi joined in on the fun and coached us on diving into the ocean before heading back to shore. I did several backward dives off the Alleria and had the most magical time on this day.

DAY 4 //

Our last full day was spent luxuriating on the cliffs at the iconic La Scogliera beach club. Recognizable by its crisp, navy-and-white umbrellas and unmatched views, La Scogliera was a picture-perfect way to spend our last day.

We decided to splurge on the spot numbered 203 and, let me assure you: it was worth every penny. Our reservation included an oversized, plush sunbed roped-off in the VIP area, a chic striped umbrella, a table for two and a ringer for drink service.

The best part, though?

Our location gave us access to two private ladders into the sea, one of which led to a private pebbled beach. We swam to the beach and collected sea glass, splashed around in the shallows and cozied up together to take in the unbelievable views (and moment!) before us

DAY 5//

Our last morning started bright and early (read: dark and early) because we booked a sunrise photoshoot with the incredible Andrea Gallucci to commemorate our time in the magical seaside town. The photos were some of the best money we spent on our trip and I could not recommend Andrea more. We’ll make it a priority to work with Andrea every time we find ourselves on Italian soil.
